ENIGMA

I realize that Derek didn't issue invitations to a poetry contest, but, as you'll soon see, I've truly been inspired:

Enigma by Gr. Barb

How do you separate Poetry from
Prose?

May as well try to separate Gr. Barb from

cookies (and bars and pies and ice cream and pizza).

I'm flattered that I could inspire someone whom I've looked up to for so long (and will continue to look up to, even when I am, in a more literal sense, looking down on her [that was supposed to be a height joke, although it now occurs to me that it could be interpreted as an allusion to my impending death and ascension into heaven {please do not consider the latter interpretation}]). Anyways, great proem!

I see no need for death and heaven to get mixed up with cookies and pies in my poem. Anyway, D, I only thought of our respective heights re your reference to looking down.

Your compliment will spur me on to possibly yet greater poems!

Death is obviously the theme of this piece, with the afterlife implied. The alliteration, provacatively alternating at times, reinforces the poem's metaphysical edge.

Gr. Barb, you are the poet who doesn't know it.
